Thanks for stopping by.
We knew the title of our blog post would strike a chord with you. But we suspect it was the nasty cramp that you probably got when you bent down to pick up something on the floor that got you thinking…
The next moment the searing pain must have shot up along your spine, starting from your now stouter midriff…
You probably had to be helped to the nearest chair.
Let me guess what you did next as you lay there immobile on the couch, afraid to move.
You made a solemn resolution that you’d join a gym as soon as you got back on your feet.
Entirely predictable, we say, both in action and the eventual outcome!
‘As many as half the people who join an exercise program, drop out within 6 months.’
‘As much as 65% of the gym membership goes unused.’
Now why do people drop out? Some of the popular reasons excuses are:
– I sprained my ankle/neck/back…
– Exercises are too hard
– I’m not an exercise person
And the most popular reason, of course, is: “I have an office audit going on… will start from next week”!
And then we have New Year resolutions that don’t last beyond the first month.
With a pandemic raging, joining a gym is out of the question anyway.
Ever wondered why it didn’t happen with our parents?
It’s elementary: They had no gadgets or ‘labour-saving’ devices; they walked everywhere. Even the ‘Scooter’ the pop booked years ago took ages to be delivered.
So what’s gone wrong with us? A combination of several factors.
Here’s what Harvard Health Publishing has to say about inactivity:
Pitfalls of sitting long hours are risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer (particularly colon and breast cancer).
Everyone is aware of the risks of not exercising yet not scared enough to get themselves to exercise regularly!
Hollywood star Al Pacino, who has led a typical starry lifestyle is now all of 81.
Asked whether he exercised regularly to keep fit, he had this to say:
“Whenever I get the urge to exercise, I lie down until it passes.”
We guess the ‘Scarface’ star probably speaks for most of us.
Having said that the rest of us mortals do need regular exercise, especially now when we are leading a less-active lifestyle.
Everybody needs SOME exercise in their life.
Now for the Yoga poses we promised which we’ll discuss next!
Nothing fancy, but simple poses to encourage you to do it 5-6 days a week.
– Exercising does not have to be intense, but it has to be regular to reap the benefits.
– Our goal is to get you to do the simple exercise daily, rather than asking you to do the impossible and the unsustainable, forcing you to drop out.
– Combined with a nutritious diet we guarantee you that you will knock off those extra pounds in no time.
– And develop core strength, flexibility, and endurance in the bargain.
Along with regular exercise you also need to watch what you eat. Here are some pointers:
– Avoid junk food including sugary drinks
– Adopt a protein and fibre rich diet
– Eat more nuts, vegetables, and whole grains to boost your energy and immunity and your share of Vitamin E, Manganese, Healthy Fatty Acids, and Antioxidants
– Make sure you get enough sleep
