The Story of Open Secret

Every entrepreneurial journey starts with a desire to make a meaningful impact. The impact that we are looking to create at Open Secret is something that is very close to my heart, and one that takes me back to my childhood experiences.

Never Settle

Growing up in a small town in India, I was fortunate to have a mother who taught me the importance of a best-in-class education in a society where it was typically reserved only for sons. I learnt the early lesson that dreaming big requires you to keep challenging the status quo. My growing and burning desire to create meaningful impact led me to travel to IIT Bombay, where I discovered my passion for consumer brands. Over the years as I worked across different continents with P&G and General Mills, I realized how brands can touch and improve the lives of millions of consumers. 

Passion to purpose

Harvard Business School was a transformative journey for me, inspiring me to work towards creating a meaningful difference in the world. Later, as I worked in the food industry, I discovered the lack of nutritional options available for families, especially in a country like India. On a personal level, I heard my sister-in-law complain about the lack of healthy yet convenient options for my niece. This reminded me of the same struggles that my working mother experienced with us. As I dug deeper, I discovered that India was found to have one of the most unhealthy packaged food industries in the world. As soon as I identified this gap, I decided to come back to India, quit my job and work towards making every Indian family eat better. 

Open Secret was born

As I started on this journey, I wanted to bring in like minded people that were passionate about our mission. I was fortunate to have Udit, whom I had previously known for 10 years, as my partner on this journey. We are also privileged to have mentors in the form of investors, including Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Avnish Bajaj, Sanjot Malhi, Kunal Bahl, Rohit Bansal and Vivek Gambhir.

When creating Open Secret, the aim seemed simple but the true nature of the challenge has kept us honest and humble. Our philosophy – to make you the center of our brand and make you a part of the narrative is at the heart of our brand. 

It has been 15 months since we started and we are growing rapidly with a group of highly passionate individuals with the ideal combination of expertise who are committed to create a dent in the snacking space. Purpose reflects in everything that we do – from focusing on a culture of empathy and care at work to ensuring that we are doing our bit in empowering women, who comprise more that 50% of our labor force. We are on a mission to make every Indian family eat better and we are not going to settle until we get there.
